Blogging again.

I decided one of the reasons I stop blogging is because I don’t have anything to blog about. But it isn’t *really* because I have nothing to blog about – it’s because I cant decide what to blog about because there’s just so much going on. Hopefully by keeping my focus narrow to the things I am intensely involved in, I wont fall victim to the pitfalls of information overload.

I think I’m going to start with a few specific areas: alcohol, New Orleans, sports, programming, and Walt Disney World. Perhaps the five things that interest me the most from day to day. Alcohol, because I’m a homebrewer, and a beer snob. I’m starting to get into cocktails, and you cant ask to live in a better city for that – the birthplace of the cocktail – New Orleans. And speaking of New Orleans, it is a wonderful city. Full of history and culture, music and food, drinking and dancing… Where we like our politics like we like our rice – dirty. And of course, home to two professional sports franchises, as well as a minor league baseball team, and several decent-to-good collegiate teams. I’ve been watching the Saints since I was old enough to watch TV, and have been going to games, well, probably before I could even talk. I’ve always wanted season tickets, and after moving back home from Arkansas in 2006, I finally bought them. Just in time, too, as they embarked on the best 5 year span in franchise history.

Those three categories – alcohol, sports and New Orleans – pretty much go together seamlessly. In fact, throw in music and partying, and just about anyone born in New Orleans probably has these interests genetically instilled in them before birth, a sort of natural selection.

However, my other two categories dont quite fit in with those other three. Ever since 1st grade, when we got to play educational games where you had to type as fast as you could before a lobster caught you, through elementary school, where we learned basic programming with Logo, and played games like DigDug, Carmen Sandiego, and Oregon Trail, I knew I wanted to work with computers. In high school, the internet started to get popular, and I started making webpages on Geocities. They were terrible of course, but I knew it was what I wanted to do. I eventually found my way into a job doing just that.

As for Disney World… I had never even been until the age of 26, in December of 2007, Candice and I went their on our honeymoon. I instantly fell in love with it, and became determined to go as often as possible. The parks are just immaculately themed, full of fun, excitement, childlike wonder… The shows are great, the rides are great, and the entire experience just immerses you in a completely different world.

So. Thats the basic intro to my new blog. There will be entries about things going on around the city, ruminations on sports, drinkin’ stories, code snippets and discussions of web programming techniques, and discussions about things going on with Disney World.

Maybe I’ll get a few readers, maybe not. Either way, it will be fun to get my thoughts down “on paper” and attempt to continue posting. And hopefully this narrow focus will keep me on track and posting more regularly this time.
